The Commission's central Digital Product Passport registry arrives on its 19 July 2026 deadline, governed by Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1778. It lets customs check imported goods, so importers into the EU need it on their radar.

From 19 July 2026, large companies are prohibited under the ESPR from destroying unsold clothes, accessories and footwear. It is a separate ecodesign obligation from the textiles Digital Product Passport, and it reaches non-EU brands that sell into the EU.

Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/1736 of 14 July 2026 cites six EN 18xxx Digital Product Passport standards, giving them a presumption of conformity under the ESPR. The two security standards, prEN 18239 and prEN 18246, are not yet included.
