Batteries

AdoptedRegulation (EU) 2025/2509 in force since 1 Jan 2026. Mandatory Digital Product Passport for every toy on the EU market.

Battery passport access rights: the Article 77(9) implementing act missed its 18 August 2026 deadline
Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 required the Commission to adopt an implementing act on who has a legitimate interest in restricted battery passport data by 18 August 2026. The Commission's DPP timeline now lists it for Q4 2026, three months before passports become mandatory.

Battery passport data points: the Commission's version 2.0 guidance, explained
On 21 August 2026 the Commission published version 2.0 of its Digital Batteries Passport guidance. It maps 71 data points to EV, LMT and industrial batteries and marks which ones do not have to be filled or displayed when the passport becomes mandatory on 18 February 2027.

CIRPASS-2 publishes its DPP reference architecture and an open-source test environment with a mock EU registry
Between June and July 2026 the EU-funded CIRPASS-2 project released its updated D4.1 reference architecture for the Digital Product Passport system, an open-source test environment including a mock EU registry and validation tools, and survey results on textiles granularity and DPP readiness.
